A private tour to Jenolan Caves - is it worth the time?

WHEN RESEARCHING THE BLUE MOUNTAINS, A VISIT TO THE JENOLAN CAVES ALWAYS POPS UP AS A ‘MUST DO.’ But is it worth the three hour plus drive from Sydney?

Getting to Jenolan Caves is not only difficult because of the distance traveled, but also because of the terrain - a windy road that hangs onto the edge of a cliff. And this is where Personalised Sydney Tour’s comes in - offering a TOUR COMBINING THE PRIVATE EXPERIENCE OF BOTH THE BLUE MOUNTAINS AND THE JENOLAN CAVES, and not just bypassing the Blue Mountains. We will also visit the The Three Sisters, Jamison Valley, Katoomba Falls, Boars Head and the Megalong Valley, like the big bus operators do.

SO IS IT WORTH TOURING THE JENOLAN CAVES? YES, YES AND A THIRD YES!

Firstly, the drive past the Blue Mountains and out to the Jenolan Caves is stunning. You will see the best of Australia’s rolling hills, dotted with sheep, cows, goats, alpacas and wild kangaroos, all with the Blue Mountains sandstone plateau as a backdrop. So getting there is ‘nice to the eye.’ - especially when we visit one of our knowledgeable spots to pat wild wallabies and eastern grey kangaroos.

Encountering Australian wildlife is always a fun experience, but being able to get close enough to pat a kangaroo is a totally different story. Watch the video of a wallaby with her baby hopping right up to us on the drive to the caves.

The entrance to the Jenolan Caves is magnificent and our tour van drives straight through a narrow cutting of rock through to the historic Jenolan Caves House - a hotel taking you back in time to the late 19th century with Victorian architecture.

There are plenty of options of caves to tour: the Lucas Cave, Imperial Cave, Chifley Cave, Orient Cave, Diamond Cave or Temple Of Baal just to name a few. Depending on your time of arrival, cave tour starting time, (times fluctuate throughout the year), length of the tour, and your fitness levels, these will be the ones to choose from, the latter three being more elaborate..

Although all of the Jenolan Caves are incredible and highlight the areas PRETTY CRYSTAL LIMESTONE STALACTITES, STALAGMITES, COLUMNS AND HELICTITES - the ones that grow horizontal, so you can’t go wrong with the choice of cave.

Touring the caves takes you into a MYSTERIOUS ANCIENT WORLD OF AWE AND WONDER with formations only dreamed of or seen in a children’s fantasy movie. Some of the formations are more akin to glistening snow white flakes dropping from the ceiling, pink dancing fairies, animal characters such as pink elephants and ghost white penguins, walls of cascading flow stone representing a glacier and underground rivers of the purest water you will ever see. It really is a magical playground with mythical names to match.
